Reasons Why This Is A Great Resume For A Recent University Graduate

Hundreds of thousands of students in Australia will graduate from University this year. Some graduates will have an extensive resume, while others will not.

It doesn't matter if you have an extensive resume or not, you just need your resume to catch the attention of the recruiter. In other words, you want to make an excellent first impression on whoever views your resume.

What makes your resume stand out? Continue to read this example of a recent grad's, who has some work experience, resume. This should provide you with a general idea of what makes a good resume for a recent university grad.

1. The Resume Includes A Link To His Professional Profile

Recent graduates should have a profile that is just for their professional brand. If you are wanting to work in a more creative field, then you should create an online portfolio and list the link to it on your resume. You should list the link under the 'contact info' section of your resume. If you don't want employers to find your personal profiles, then simply increase your security settings or even change your account name on your personal accounts. This will increase your chances of only having your professional profile seen by employers.

2. The Summary Isn't Fluffy

You might be tempted to use words such as "proactive" and "motivated" because they are buzzwords, but you should know that these words are just fluff. Recruiters and employers will probably not be impressed with such words used in your professional summary. Instead of telling employers how you are an excellent team player, tell them how you and your team was able to do things such as improve a process or increase alumni donations.

3. His Score Is Listed

If you have a good score, then you should include it in your resume, especially if it is an entry-level resume. If your score is not that impressive, then don't include it, but you might be asked about why you didn't include it in your resume.

4. No Mention Of High School

Employers don't really care what you did 4+ years ago, as they are more interested in what you are doing as of lately. Instead of mentioning what you did before you went to university, focus on your accomplishments, activities and any work experience you had during your time at university.

5. Coursework Is Not Included

In this example, the job seeker has internship experience and other extracurricular activities that shows off his marketing and sales skills. This is why there's no need for him to mention that he has taken courses such as "Intro to Communication" or "Principles of Marketing." However, if you don't have any relevant experience for the job you're applying for, then you might have to include some relevant courses that you took in university. Try to stick with higher-level classes and not mention the lower level courses you have take, such as "Intro to Finance."

6. No Pronouns Are Used

Generally speaking, it's a good idea to not use pronouns such as 'I' or 'me,' and try not to use your name when you talk about yourself in the third person.

7. Action Verbs Were Used To Describe Roles And Responsibilities

When describing your roles, try to use action verbs. In this example, the person didn't say what he was responsible for, but instead he focused on what he accomplished. Even if you have not accomplished much, you can still use action verbs such as "created," "led," and "developed" to name just a few.

8. There Is No List Of References

You don't want to waste resume space by listing a bunch of references. Nowadays employers tend to ask about references when you meet with them face-to-face.

If you are looking for internships in Melbourne with small business employers, then you will want to keep all of the information discussed in this article in mind, as it will help you impress them with a great resume.
